FEATURES
The 2017 Kistler Carneros Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay is a superb example of this renowned Californian producer's evolving style. Kistler, a cult Californian producer, is known for crafting small volumes of exceptional, rich, and generous wines that are also incredibly hard to find, with most production sold directly to their mailing list. The 2017 vintage saw winemaker Jason Kesner continue the stylistic shift towards a slimmer, fresher, and more energetic profile, a change that began around 2008. This involved harvesting earlier to retain acidity and reducing new oak usage to 38%. Despite low yields due to poor weather during set, Kesner managed to pick most of the fruit before the Labor Day heat, contributing to the wine's freshness and nuance.
【Cult Californian Chardonnay】
Tasting Notes: This Chardonnay presents a delicate nose of apricot, quince peel, and red apple skin, complemented by notes of honeyed almonds, toast, gunflint, and dried flowers with a spicy undercurrent. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, broad, and rounded, offering intense savoury fruit layers balanced by tangy acidity, leading to a very long, mineral finish. Reviewers have also noted a complex bouquet of citrus, apple, brioche, and salty minerality, along with white flower notes. It's described as creamy and lush with flavours of honeydew melon and ripe yellow peach, a balanced and structured texture, and a smooth, rich finish of buttery oak, minerality, and a hint of spice.
Food Pairing Suggestions:
East: Roasted chicken with herbs, creamy seafood pasta, pan-seared scallops with butter sauce.
