FEATURES
The 2018 vintage was an excellent year across California, offering a calm growing season after the 2017 wildfires, with a cooler-than-normal spring and successful flowering. The Wendling Vineyard Block E, where these grapes are sourced, was planted in 2010 in gravelly soils and is meticulously farmed using biodynamic methods. This vineyard holds a unique position as the most northwesterly site in Anderson Valley, situated just nine miles from the Pacific Ocean.
This Pinot Noir is powerful and deep, just beginning to reveal its aromatic complexities, with sweet notes of dried cherry, spice, new leather, tobacco, mint, and dried herbs. It boasts an intense mid-palate and a potent, structured profile. Visually, it presents a medium ruby-purple hue, offering aromas of blackberry preserves and cranberry sauce, accented by desiccated violets, bergamot, and fragrant soil. The palate is powerful yet supple, with sweet berry fruits interwoven with floral perfume. It is expressive and fresh, showcasing candied notes, blackberry, cherry, violets, licorice, and wildflowers, along with herbaceous complexity and chewy tannins. Flavors of black cherries, blueberries, redwood duff, bay leaf, and singed herbs contribute to its fascinating depth.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This versatile Pinot Noir pairs well with chicken and turkey.
