The 1997 Domaine du Clos Naudin Philippe Foreau Demi-Sec hails from a Loire Valley vintage that, despite early challenges like frosts and a wet June, ultimately proved a great success thanks to hot and dry conditions in July and August. Philippe Foreau is widely regarded as one of the Loire Valley's superstars, with his name synonymous with high-quality Vouvray. His wines are celebrated for their inimitable character: ample, concentrated, and structured, yet crystalline in their aromatics and exquisitely balanced.
This Demi-Sec typically presents a deep golden color, offering a textured and vibrant palate with notes of honey, quince, and lemon preserve, underpinned by lively acids and a delicate touch of sweetness. Expect ripe quince, orange citrus, hints of stone fruits, candied ginger, and distinct mineral notes, all balanced by firm acidity. While some bottles might show more advanced, wooly, or even slightly oxidized characteristics, well-preserved examples remain fresh and profound. 【Philippe Foreau is one of the superstars of the Loire Valley, known for high-quality Vouvray.】
🍴 Food Pairing: This versatile demi-sec pairs beautifully with fruit-based desserts, creamy goat cheese, or even foie gras.
🥂 Event Suggestions: A superb choice for a special occasion, a contemplative tasting, or as an elegant accompaniment to a celebratory meal. Its age offers a unique dimension for those who appreciate mature Chenin Blanc.
Serving Advice: Although not pre-1980, a 1997 Vouvray Demi-Sec has considerable age. Stand the bottle upright for a day or two before serving to allow any potential sediment to settle. While decanting can help older wines open up, a shorter decant (30 minutes) or simply opening it an hour before serving might be preferable to preserve its delicate aromatics. Serve slightly chilled, around 10-12°C (50-54°F).
