FEATURES
The 2019 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a very dry summer, though a relatively normal spring ensured well-supported vines, necessitating precise picking dates. Domaine de Montille's 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey originates from a 0.73-hectare parcel on the Vosne-Romanée side of Nuits, acquired in 2005. The domaine is renowned for its significant use of whole clusters, varying by cuvée and vintage, and has been organic since 1995, transitioning to biodynamic practices in 2005.
This Pinot Noir offers a focused bouquet of elegant red cherry, raspberry, and briary aromas, complemented by hints of bay leaf and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with fine acidity, exhibiting superb tension and focus, leading to a persistent finish. It reveals attractive dark fruit, spice, and liquorice notes. Some describe it as linear rather than a "strength Nuits-St-George," with bright, slightly earthy dark fruit and firm tannins. Other tasting notes include underripe cassis, cranberry, iced tea, sage, and minerality, with a smooth, dry palate and reasonable acidity. It can also present vibrant dark fruit upfront with an earthy rising middle and a long vegetal finish, currently a bit tight but expected to open up in 4-5 years. 【Superb tension and focus with elegant red fruit aromas】
Food Pairing: Red Burgundy, particularly Nuits-Saint-Georges, pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, game birds, mushroom dishes, and mild cheeses.
Event suggestions: This wine is perfectly suited for a sophisticated dinner, a special celebration, or for cellaring to allow further development. It can be enjoyed now for its vibrant fruit or aged for a decade or more for added complexity.
