FEATURES
Domaine Ganevat, led by Jean-François Ganevat (affectionately known as Fanfan), is a Jura powerhouse with a winemaking lineage stretching back to 1650. Fanfan is celebrated for his minimal intervention approach, involving hand-picking, no new oak, no fining or filtering, and no added SO2. From just 8.5 hectares, he crafts an astonishing 35 to 40 different cuvées annually from 17 local varieties. The 'Les Chalasses Poulsard Vieilles Vignes' is a single-vineyard expression from approximately 50-year-old Poulsard vines, undergoing whole-cluster fermentation and aging for over two years in old oak. 【Minimal intervention winemaking from ancient vines, resulting in a pure and ethereal expression of Poulsard.】
This wine presents a very pale cerise color. The nose is expressive with juicy red berries, earth, wet leaves, and hints of honeyed florals, almost like tea. You might also find rosehip, peony, blood orange, and grapefruit, giving it a spicy and quirky character. On the palate, it offers unbelievable depth, remaining pure and ethereal, with notes of sous bois, olive brine, cranberries, and strawberries, leading to a long finish. It's delicate and acid-driven, with red fruit and earthy undertones.
Food pairing suggestions: This unique Poulsard is a herb lover's dream. It pairs wonderfully with cold cuts, various cheeses, and mushroom-based dishes. It's also an excellent match for game, such as deer or venison, and light appetizers and snacks.
Event suggestions: This is a fascinating wine for those keen on exploring natural wines or the distinctive offerings of the Jura region. It's perfect for a gathering with friends who appreciate expressive and unconventional red wines. Its delicate nature suggests it's best enjoyed in its youth to capture its vibrant fruit and acidity.
