🏰The 1998 Chateau Grand Corbin Despagne is a classic Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, representing a family estate with 【over two centuries of history and a commitment to organic farming】. This mature Bordeaux blend offers complex hints of red berry and floral notes, which have evolved with bottle age towards more spicy nuances and hints of truffle, violets, and cherries. On the palate, expect delicate, unctuous, and velvety tannins, alongside flavors of mocha, dark fruits, cassis, black cherry, and subtle oak vanillins, with a mineral-driven finish. It presents elegant fruit characters and a fresh garnet color, deceptively youthful for its age.
🍴 When young, this wine pairs perfectly with red meat and game dishes. Now with age, it's a wonderful match for white meat and poultry dishes, even rich fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta. Classic pairings include beef, venison, and grilled lamb chops.
🥂 An excellent choice for dinner parties, special meals, or simply enjoying a beautifully aged Bordeaux. The 1998 vintage is considered to be at its peak now.
Serving Suggestion: This wine is best enjoyed in the first 5-18 years of life. Older vintages like this 1998 might need very little decanting, just enough to remove any sediment.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Grand Corbin Despagne is a Grand Cru Classe estate in the north of the Saint Emilion appellation in Bordeaux. The estate was founded by the Despagne family in 1812 and today remains family-owned. The Chateau Grand Corbin Despagne grand vin is a Merlot-predominant blend, with smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are harvested by hand from vines aged over 20 years old and later aged in 40 to 60 percent new oak barrels for between 12-18 months. Production of the grand vin totals approximately 70,000 to 100,000 bottles per year.
