FEATURES
Stéphane Bernaudeau, a prominent figure in the Loire Valley's natural wine movement, established his domaine in Anjou in 2000. His reputation was largely built on "Les Nourrissons," a cuvée sourced from a 0.7-hectare parcel of predominantly Chenin Blanc vines, some planted as early as 1910, with a small percentage of Verdelho. These over 110-year-old vines are dry-farmed and biodynamically managed, yielding intensely concentrated Chenin Blanc. The 2018 vintage, characterized by a warm and dry Loire summer, produced wines of unusual ripeness and depth. Bernaudeau chooses to label this wine as Vin de France, reflecting his philosophical approach to winemaking. Production is notably small, making these wines highly sought-after.
The 2018 Stéphane Bernaudeau Les Nourrissons is celebrated for its remarkable tension and depth. It offers a saline tropical lift, with notes of quince, beeswax, candied lemon, and white flowers, underpinned by a distinct schist minerality. Some tasters also find tropical fruit, pineapple, honey, paraffin, apple, orange, and cinnamon, balanced by excellent acidity. It can exhibit a rich, lanolin-like texture.
Food pairing suggestions: This vibrant white wine is an excellent match for roasted chicken or turkey. Its complexity also makes it suitable for richer fish dishes, creamy pasta, or goat cheese.
Event suggestions: An ideal choice for a sophisticated dinner party, a special seafood feast, or an occasion to impress natural wine aficionados.
