The Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 2023 is a highly anticipated white Burgundy, even though the 2023 vintage generally lacked acidity, the wines from this domaine show desirable tension. The 2023 vintage in Burgundy was characterized by being one of the hottest years, yet the grapes were harvested at perfect maturity, yielding very aromatic wines with notes of yellow fruits and floral hints. Early barrel samples of the Meursault Clos de la Barre 2023 reveal aromas of pear and sweet citrus fruits mingled with white flowers and toasted almonds. It is described as medium to full-bodied, dense, and layered, with a satiny and textural feel, a structured mid-palate, and a penetrating finish, built to reward some bottle age. The Meursault Village 2023, which includes younger vines from Charmes and Perrières, offers a harmonious and intense bouquet with walnut and hazelnut infusing citrus fruit, a lively and sapid palate with admirable minerality, satisfying weight, and lovely cohesion on the finish. These wines are expected to drink well young but also improve for years in the cellar.
🍴 Food Pairing: This Meursault, with its richness and complexity, would be superb with roasted chicken with herbs, pan-seared scallops with a creamy sauce, or richer fish dishes like halibut or cod. For Eastern pairings, consider it with Cantonese steamed crab with egg white, or a delicate Japanese hot pot (shabu-shabu).
🥂 Event Suggestions: An excellent choice for a sophisticated dinner party, a special anniversary celebration, or a significant business lunch. Its elegance and depth make it suitable for occasions that call for a truly fine white wine. 【Generosity, Freshness, and Finesse】
BACKGROUND
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy, France, making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small portion being Pinot Noir. The estate is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Comtes Lafon's house and cellar were built in 1869 by the Boch family, but its reputation as a winery was most heavily influenced by Jules Lafon, who married Marie Boch in 1894.
