Sylvie Esmonin, Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques 1er Cru, 2018
The 2018 Sylvie Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St. Jacques" is a standout, with many critics noting that Sylvie Esmonin truly excelled in this vintage, crafting one of her finest Clos St-Jacques to date. This wine, sourced from a 1.6-hectare parcel, is known for its rich, layered, and complete profile, showcasing masses of perfume, well-integrated new wood, palate-coating tannins, and a long, mineral-fresh finish. It presents notes of ripe red fruits like black cherry and raspberry, complemented by delicate floral hints of violet, and sweet spice aromas such as cinnamon and vanilla. The palate can be sweet and slightly candied on the opening, with blood orange-infused black fruit, grippy and bold, finishing with cracked black pepper and mineral notes. 【Critically acclaimed as one of Sylvie Esmonin's best Clos St-Jacques vintages】. This wine is still very young but approachable, showing more complexity and intensity after some time in the glass, and has excellent potential for further aging.
Food Pairing: This elegant red Burgundy pairs beautifully with classic French cuisine such as roasted duck breast with cherry reduction, coq au vin, or mushroom risotto. For an Eastern twist, consider pairing it with Peking duck or a rich, slow-cooked beef stew.
Event Suggestions: Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a special anniversary celebration, or a serious wine tasting among connoisseurs. It's a wine that demands attention and rewards patience.

The majority of the wines produced by the estate are Pinot Noir-based, but it does also have a single white wine within its portfolio made from Chardonnay grapes. The Esmonin family originally came from nobility and has lived in the Burgundy region since the reign of the Dukes of Burgundy (which ended in the 15th Century). The estate was previously known as Domaine Michel Esmonin et Fille, named after the father of the current proprietor, Sylvie Esmonin.
