De L'arlot, Cote De Nuits Villages Clos Du Chapeau, 2022
The 2022 Domaine de l'Arlot Côte de Nuits-Villages "Clos du Chapeau" is a delightful expression from a biodynamically farmed monopole vineyard, known for its chalky terroir and 50+ year old Pinot Noir vines. The 2022 vintage is described as a "light vintage with crisp fruit and fresh goji berries" by James Suckling, offering nice early appeal. Winemaker notes highlight an intense garnet-red color and typical aromas of small black fruit like blackcurrant, presenting as a big, powerful wine with delicious flavors. Expect bright red berry aromas, a touch of cranberries, and a hint of tomato leaves on the nose, leading to a beautiful smooth texture and underplayed power on the medium-bodied palate. It reveals an earthy and savory complexity in its surprisingly long, silky finish. Other notes include cherry burlat, fresh rose, black pepper, and subtle smoky/vanilla nuances, with a supple and gourmand mouthfeel and crunchy tannins.
Food pairing suggestions include classic choices like duck, goose, and game birds. For a more adventurous pairing, consider fine buckwheat tartlets, porcini mushroom cream with black garlic, or candied snails.
This wine is versatile, suitable for drinking now or holding. It's expected to be enjoyable from 2024, reaching its peak between 2026 and 2032, and can be cellared until 2037. It's a superb choice for a sophisticated dinner party or a special occasion where a refined Burgundy Pinot Noir is appreciated. 【Monopole from 50+ year old biodynamically grown Pinot Noir vines in Comblanchien's chalky terroir】
BACKGROUND
Domaine de l'Arlot is a Burgundy producer based in the Côte de Nuits, famous for its Pinot Noir from select vineyard appellations. It has vines in several prestigious vineyards, including two top monopole vineyards - Clos de Forets Saint-Georges and Clos de l'Arlot. The l'Arlot vineyard was founded in the 18th century when the owners of the estate built walls. Domaine de l'Arlot was expanded in 1891 after being acquired by wine merchant Jules Belin. Pinot Noir is the dominant variety in most of the estate's vineyards, with a small amount of Chardonnay also produced, including a rare variety from Clos de l'Arlot.
