FEATURES
The 1991 vintage for Echezeaux Grand Cru is noted for its "excellent grape maturity, providing a harmonious balance between power and finesse". It was a season particularly favorable for aromatic development and concentration in the grapes. While specific notes for Coquard Loison Fleurot 1991 are scarce, the vintage generally is considered to have produced wines that are surprisingly in good condition and an "under-rated vintage" for Echezeaux, with some examples drinking well even at 34 years of age. This mature Echezeaux Grand Cru from 1991 is expected to display an evolved ruby red colour with tawny highlights, reflecting its age. The nose should offer complex aromas of black cherry and ripe plum, intertwined with spicy, undergrowth, and subtle smoky notes. On the palate, anticipate a silky texture with smooth tannins, a harmonious balance between mature fruit and earthy flavours, leading to a persistent and elegant finish. For Coquard Loison Fleurot's Echezeaux (from a more recent vintage, but indicative of style), notes include red cherry, wild strawberry, violet, damp earth, and a hint of spice, with a silky yet structured palate. 【Harmonious balance of power and finesse from an excellent, mature vintage】. This 1991 Echezeaux Grand Cru is a mature wine, reflecting its age with an evolved ruby red color and tawny highlights. Expect complex tertiary aromas of undergrowth and subtle smoky notes alongside the fruit. Old corks can be fragile, so using a Durand opener or similar tool is highly recommended to prevent breakage. Decanting for about one hour is advisable to allow the aromas to revive and the wine to open up after its long bottle aging. Serve at a temperature of 16-17°C (61-63°F) to best appreciate its nuanced profile. 🍴 Food pairing suggestions include dry-aged rib of beef, herb-crusted rack of lamb, freshly shaved Périgord black truffle, and pan-seared foie gras with mild spices. It also pairs wonderfully with duck, goose, and other game birds. 🥂 This is a wine for significant occasions, such as an important business dinner, a wedding anniversary, or a gourmet holiday dinner. It's a special bottle to be savoured.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot is a wine estate located in Burgundy that produces wine entirely from Pinot Noir. Until recently, these wines were rarely exported, but current commercial director Claire Fleurot and winemaker Thomas Colladot have changed that. Under their guidance, the winery’s reputation has grown significantly. The total vineyard area is approximately 9 hectares (22 acres) spread over 6 different Grand Cru vineyards.
