FEATURES
The 2004 Champagne vintage was an excellent one, yielding elegant wines capable of both early enjoyment and extended cellaring. It was notable for its massive yields, the largest on record at the time, following a challenging 2003 vintage. Despite initial underestimation, the 2004 Champagnes have blossomed into complex, refined wines of exceptional purity and age-worthiness. This particular Cuvée Nicole Moncuit "Vieilles Vignes" is a rare Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, produced only in exceptional vintages from the family's nearly century-old vines in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and patiently matured for 10 years in the cellars.
This Champagne, even after two decades, is just beginning to fully express itself, initially showing tight citrus and orange notes that evolve into dried fruits and smoked nuts. It offers a richer, rounder style of Blanc de Blancs, with significant yeasty, bready, and pastry development complementing bountiful ripe yellow fruit. Expect notes of apple, almond, and ginger, with orchard fruit and brioche on the palate, supported by a fine bead and balancing acidity. Some describe it as fascinatingly scented with roasted pumpkin and hints of caramel, which reappear as salted caramel and nougat on the polished palate. There are also vivacious notes of fresh lime and pineapple, creating a delightful tension between richness and cut, subtle confectionary and vibrant citrus, culminating in a sensationally sustained finish. On the palate, it is creamy and silky, with a rich bouquet of fruity aromas. 【Produced only in exceptional vintages from soon-to-be century-old Grand Cru vines in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, embodying ancestral heritage and patient maturation for 10 years in cellars.】
Serving Advice: For a 2004 Champagne, it's best served slightly cooler than red wine but not ice-cold, ideally around 10-12°C (50-54°F), to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold. Decanting is generally not recommended for Champagne as it can dissipate the bubbles, but allowing it to breathe in the glass for a few minutes can be beneficial. Handle with care, especially when opening, as older corks can be fragile. A gentle reminder that older wines, while magnificent, can be delicate, so appreciate its journey and unique character.
🍴 Food Pairing: This exquisite Champagne pairs beautifully with shellfish, seafood platters, delicate fish, or poultry dishes.
🥂 Fit for Event: This mature Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is an exceptional choice for significant celebrations, anniversaries, or any special occasion where a refined and aged Champagne is desired. It also makes for a sophisticated aperitif.
