🏰Pierre Gonon, along with his sons Jean and Pierre, has elevated their family domaine to a leading estate in Saint-Joseph, known for top-notch Syrahs. Their Saint-Joseph Rouge comes from 80-year-old vines in the heart of St-Joseph, with a focus on preserving unique vineyard character through methods like horse ploughing and avoiding clones. Fermentation is mostly whole bunch, with no new oak, aiming for a rich start and a channeled, strict finish.
【The 2023 Pierre Gonon Saint Joseph Rouge, though young, promises to be a textbook Northern Rhône Syrah, showcasing intensity and elegance.】 It typically displays a dark ruby-red color with a complex bouquet of dark fruits like blackberry and black cherry, intertwined with notes of violets, black pepper, and spices. The palate is dense and structured, with layers of liquorice spice and savory black olive tapenade. Expect a bold wine with gamy richness and full texture, yet an unadorned and elegant style.
🍴This powerful Saint-Joseph pairs excellently with red meats, duck, barbecues, and rare meat or meat in sauce. Consider beef bourguignon, white or red meat, and earthy vegetarian dishes.
🥂A superb choice for a gourmet dinner, a gathering of wine connoisseurs, or a special occasion where a powerful yet elegant red is desired. This wine has excellent aging potential, with Pierre recommending 6 years in the cellar.
