FEATURES
The 2016 vintage in the Northern Rhône offered a cooler, more classical profile compared to the warmer 2015, emphasizing precision over sheer power. The Gangloff Côte Rôtie La Barbarine 2016 is now entering its optimal drinking window, with a promising future ahead. This wine is known for its small and allocated production, making mature vintages a rare find in the market. It displays a highly perfumed bouquet with aromas of dark fruit liqueur, potpourri, exotic spices, and smoked meat. On the palate, it delivers palate-staining black currant, cherry preserve, and spicecake flavors, all sharpened by a vibrant mineral flourish that adds energy and lift. With air, it gains weight and concludes with an extremely long and smooth finish, featuring repeating minerality and building tannic grip. Notes of blackberry and plum are also frequently mentioned. Its status as a 【rare, allocated wine from a vintage favoring precision over power】 makes it particularly sought after.
While specific food pairings were not detailed, Côte Rôtie, being predominantly Syrah, excels with roasted meats, game, and dishes featuring savory herbs. Given its distinct smoked meat notes, it would be an exceptional pairing for grilled lamb, duck, or even a rich venison stew.
With a drinking window spanning from 2023 to 2033, this wine is currently in its prime and will continue to evolve beautifully. It is an ideal choice for a sophisticated dinner party, a special celebration, or as a thoughtful gift for a discerning Rhône wine enthusiast.
