The 2016 M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois, sourced from a site on the eastern side of the appellation, is 100% destemmed Grenache aged for 21 months in concrete tanks. This deep, powerful, and surprisingly structured wine reveals blueberries, crème de cassis, crushed rocks, licorice, and pepper notes. It offers a classic ripe, pure, and sexy style with blackberries, blueberries, crushed herbs, pepper, and beautiful minerality. The wine is full-bodied, uber-concentrated, and ultra-pure, with intense raspberry liqueur, Asian spice, and floral pastille aromas. 【The 2016 vintage is considered a star of Chapoutier's Southern Rhône collection, with some critics calling it potentially the best yet.】
🍴 Food Pairing: This rich and intense red wine is an excellent match for lamb, roast beef, and other hearty red meat dishes. Its complexity also makes it suitable for game or strong cheeses.
🥂 Event Suggestions: A superb choice for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with friends or family, or for a serious wine tasting. It's a wine that can be enjoyed now for its vibrant fruit and structure, or cellared for several years to develop further complexity.
BACKGROUND
Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the most recognizable producers in the Rhône Valley. It is known for its wines from both the north and south of the valley, but in particular for its red and white Hermitage wines, made from Syrah and a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, respectively.Outside of the flagship vineyards in Hermitage, Chapoutier has vineyards across the Rhône, including plots in Côte Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Condrieu. These span both single-vineyard expressions and generic AOC-level wines. Chapoutier also makes regional Côtes du Rhône wines, and has viticultural interests in Australia (Domaine Tournon), Portugal and Alsace.
