M. Chapoutier's "Croix de Bois" is a single-varietal Grenache Châteauneuf-du-Pape, celebrated for its purity of fruit and profound expression of the terroir. The 2017 vintage, marked by warm and dry conditions, yielded concentrated fruit with well-structured tannins, promising excellent aging potential. This cuvée is often highlighted as a brilliant example of Grenache from Chapoutier, delivering everything one could desire from the varietal. 【 Pure Grenache Terroir Expression 】
The 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Croix de Bois presents an intense aromatic profile of ripe red berries, black cherry, blackberry, and blueberry, complemented by hints of dried herbs like thyme and rosemary, garrigue, and ground pepper. On the palate, it is full-bodied, deep, and seriously concentrated, with ample, well-integrated tannins and a huge, lingering finish. While approachable, it will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age to fully unfold its complexity.
This powerful and complex red is ideal for a formal dinner, a celebratory occasion, or a gathering of serious wine collectors. Its robust character makes it a perfect companion for hearty meals during cooler months.
Superb with roasted red meats such as lamb or beef, game dishes, rich stews, or mature hard cheeses. For Eastern pairings, consider slow-cooked beef brisket, spicy Sichuan hot pot, or robust Korean BBQ.
BACKGROUND
Maison M. Chapoutier is one of the most recognizable producers in the Rhône Valley. It is known for its wines from both the north and south of the valley, but in particular for its red and white Hermitage wines, made from Syrah and a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, respectively.Outside of the flagship vineyards in Hermitage, Chapoutier has vineyards across the Rhône, including plots in Côte Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Condrieu. These span both single-vineyard expressions and generic AOC-level wines. Chapoutier also makes regional Côtes du Rhône wines, and has viticultural interests in Australia (Domaine Tournon), Portugal and Alsace.
