Trevallon, Rouge, 2020
Red
750ml
Label : Good Label
Level : Neck Level
Capsule : Good Capsule
The 2020 Domaine de Trévallon Rouge is a truly unique wine, famous for its maverick blend of roughly equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah—an atypical combination for the region. The estate practices organic farming, low yields, and long élevage, with the Dürrbach family's commitment to encouraging deep root growth and reducing yields. Owner Eloi Dürrbach's defiance of appellation rules, coupled with the wine's undeniable quality and distinctive labels designed by his artist father (a friend of Picasso), contribute to its legendary status. Notably, 2020 marks Eloi Dürrbach's "great finale" at the estate, as he passed away in 2021. The vintage itself saw a rainy spring followed by a hot, dry summer with cool nights, influencing the wine's character. 【 Maverick blend and unique artistic heritage 】
Tasting notes for this 50% Syrah, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon blend highlight its bright, luminous carmine red color with violet reflections. The cool nights of the vintage contributed to its great liveliness and beautiful finesse of tannins. Expect a powerful and complex nose with notes of scrubland and black olives, leading to a palate of crushed strawberries and black olives with a eucalyptus finish. It's described as smooth and supple, enjoyable when young, but also possessing significant aging potential for many years.
🍴 This structured and deep red wine calls for powerful, flavorful dishes. It excels with grilled or roasted red meats like beef and lamb, especially lamb chops with herbs or a rack of lamb en croûte. Hearty simmered dishes such as wild boar civet, Provençal daube, or lamb tajine with figs are also excellent pairings. For vegetarian options, consider mushroom-based dishes like cep risotto or creamy polenta with chanterelles, and it pairs remarkably with mature cheeses such as aged Comté or Salers.
🥂 This wine is perfect for collectors and those who appreciate wines with significant aging potential. While it can be enjoyed young, it benefits greatly from decanting for at least an hour if consumed within its first decade. It's an ideal choice for a special occasion, a serious wine tasting, or as a centerpiece for a gourmet meal, promising to evolve beautifully over several decades.
