The 2013 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc emerged from a challenging vintage marked by a long, dry winter and a non-existent spring, demanding crucial work from winemakers to yield good quality grapes in smaller quantities. Despite these hurdles, the vintage is described as wonderfully balanced and promising.
This white Rhône blend presents a beautiful bright color with green undertones. It offers great aromatic intensity with delicate notes of white-flesh fruits like peach and various spices, contributing to its complexity and acidity. The palate is long and persistent, concluding with a subtle iodine finish. Some tasters have also noted ripe pineapple, baking spice, toasty oak, lemon pie, wet stone, and a mineral-driven finish. Jeb Dunnuck of Wine Advocate awarded it 94/100, highlighting its "fabulous richness and depth" with aromas of honeysuckle, tangerine, white flowers, and buttered almond, alongside integrated, juicy acidity and serious length.
Food pairing suggestions: This complex white wine would beautifully complement rich seafood dishes such as pan-seared scallops or lobster bisque, roasted poultry with creamy sauces, or even lighter pork preparations. Its acidity and richness also make it a good match for mature hard cheeses.
Event suggestions: 【94/100 by Jeb Dunnuck, showcasing fabulous richness and depth despite a challenging vintage】 This is an excellent choice for a sophisticated dinner party, a celebratory occasion, or a special wine tasting event. Its depth and aging potential also make it a thoughtful gift for a discerning wine collector.
BACKGROUND
Château de Beaucastel is a wine producer based in Courthézon, in the northern Châteauneuf-du-Pape region of the southern Rhône. Château de Beaucastel has all 13 of the permitted grape varieties for Châteauneuf-du-Pape planted in the vineyard (Bourboulenc; Brun Argenté/Vaccarèse; Cinsault; Clairette Blanc and Rose; Counoise; Grenache Blanc, Gris and Noir; Mourvèdre; Muscardin; Picardan; Piquepoul Blanc Gris and Noir; Roussanne; Syrah; and Terret Noir). The estate traces its roots back to 1549 when Pierre de Beaucastel purchased a barn and vineyard plot in the region, marking it with his family's crest. It remained in the family until 1909 when scientist Pierre Perrin took control. Today, the estate is managed by Perrin's grandsons, Jean-Pierre and François.
