FEATURES
Domaine Tempier, established in 1834, is a legendary producer in Bandol, known for its powerful and age-worthy Mourvèdre-based reds. The 2012 Cabassaou is a prime example, sourced from a unique micro-terroir at the bottom of the Tourtine vineyard. This stony-walled plot is protected from the Mistral wind and benefits from a very warm micro-climate, resulting in shallow soils and exceptionally low yields. The wine is predominantly Mourvèdre (92-94%), with Syrah and a touch of Cinsault, and aged for 18 months in large oak vats, contributing to its dense, tight character and remarkable aging potential of 10 years or more.
On the nose, the 2012 Cabassaou offers expressive aromas of ripe black plum, cassis, dried lavender, leather, and wild thyme, with secondary notes of cigar box, game, and crushed gravel unfolding gracefully. Jancis Robinson described a "heady, complex nose" that was "already quite evolved," noting its juicy, racy, polished, sinewy, and long character. On the palate, it presents broad, muscular tannins framing a plush texture, with dark fruit, a hint of tar, leather, and a gamey note. It's a truly elegant wine with dark cherry, licorice, and a lovely blend of fruit and earth, finishing with soft tannins. 【Exceptional aging potential from a unique micro-terroir of old-vine Mourvèdre】.
🍴 Food Pairing: This bold and structured red is an excellent match for lamb. It also pairs beautifully with pork tenderloin and mushrooms, or other rich, savory dishes.
🥂 Fit for Event: The 2012 Tempier Bandol Cabassaou is ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with discerning wine lovers, or as a cornerstone for a serious wine collection. Its complexity and aging potential make it a wine to savor and discuss.
