The 2009 Château de Pibarnon Bandol Rouge hails from a great vintage in the south of France, benefiting from well-timed rainfall and a mild spring followed by a hot, dry summer. Slower ripening in late summer helped preserve freshness and purity in the wine. This red wine, predominantly Mourvèdre with a touch of Grenache, showcases intense flavors of black berries, roasted coffee beans, and garrigue, with smooth tannins and a pleasant spiciness. Reviewers note it's riper and smoother than the 2008, with integrated tannins and dark fruit, spice, and leather notes. There's also a hint of gaminess and a ripe, fruity character, balanced by acidity and juicy red fruits. The wine is produced from terraced vineyards up to 300 meters, with Triassic soil contributing to its fine tannins and minerality. It undergoes 18 months of aging in oak casks and is certified organic. 【Known for its age-worthiness and the unique expression of Mourvèdre from its high-elevation, Triassic soil vineyards overlooking the Mediterranean.】
Food pairing suggestions include intense dishes such as meat stews, game, or aged cheeses, with cassoulet being a community recommendation.
This wine is optimal for cellar aging, with the potential to evolve favorably for several years, and can cruise for another 10-15 years. It's a polished Provence wine suitable for gifting, dining, or cellaring. For immediate enjoyment, decanting for at least two hours is recommended to allow it to fully open up. As with any wine of this age, handle with care, especially when opening, as older corks can be fragile.
