FEATURES
Yannick Amirault is a leading figure in the Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil appellations. The "Pavillon du Grand Clos" is a highly sought-after, limited-release cuvée, produced only in exceptional vintages, including 2020. This wine originates from a tiny 0.21-hectare walled clos, a monopole vineyard overlooking the famous hillside of "Le Grand Clos" in Bourgueil, characterized by clay soil over Turonian limestone. The estate has practiced organic viticulture since 2000 and was certified in 2011. The winemaking involves full destemming, alcoholic fermentation in open tanks with four weeks of maceration, and aging for 24 months in 450-liter oak barrels.
The 2020 vintage was initially quite tense and closed but has become more approachable, showcasing classic Cabernet Franc characteristics of cassis, red plums, and herbal notes. It offers an elegant and smooth finish with a pleasant bitterness. Other tasting notes for the 2020 include deep dark fruits, freshly chopped green peppers, minerals, and a long, seductive afterglow, indicating maturity. Generally, this is a concentrated, full-bodied red wine with aromas of dark fruits, woody, and minty notes. The palate is full-bodied with a dense, well-integrated tannin structure. Expect notes of red cherry, raspberry, violet, graphite, and fresh herbs. It's described as a very generous wine with a subtle varietal identity, built upon a dense and melted tannin structure.
Food pairing suggestions include wild boar stew with prunes, 7-hour-braised lamb, game, poultry with mushroom sauce, or a fine cheese platter. It also pairs well with beef, venison, cheese, olives, and quality prosciutto.
This is a connoisseur's wine, ideal for special occasions and celebratory meals, given its limited production and exceptional vintage status. It can be enjoyed now or cellared through 2038, with decanting for one hour recommended before serving. 【A confidential cuvée produced only in exceptional vintages from a tiny, prime monopole vineyard.】
