The 2011 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Les Romains is a benchmark single-vineyard Sancerre, showcasing the unique expression of pure flint (silex) soils from a south-facing slope. Domaine Vacheron, a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture since 2004, is celebrated for its terroir-driven wines. This particular cuvée is known for its serious breadth and complexity, often requiring some age to fully reveal its potential. Tasting notes for the 2011 vintage describe an abundance of citrus fruit, particularly lime and starfruit, complemented by peach notes and a subtle jasmine character. It is intensely mineral-driven with mouth-watering acidity, and can present notes of straw, melon, and a touch of citrus. Stephan Reinhardt of Wine Advocate rated the 2011 vintage 93/100, suggesting a drinking window of 2017-2025.
Food Pairing: This complex Sancerre is an excellent partner for rich seafood dishes, white meats, and cream sauces. It beautifully complements pan-roasted cod or other meaty and oily fish.
Fit for Event: A sophisticated choice for a discerning palate, perfect for a special dinner or a tasting focused on terroir-driven Sauvignon Blancs. While it was suggested to drink from 2013-2018 by some, others noted it was still very tight in 2015, indicating its capacity for further evolution. It's a wine that rewards patience and contemplation.
