FEATURES
Clos Rougeard is a legendary, small-production estate in Saumur-Champigny, widely considered the finest red wine estate in the Loire Valley, setting the benchmark for Cabernet Franc. The wines are known for meticulous vineyard work, native fermentations, and long aging, resulting in remarkably refined, age-worthy expressions with silky tannins, mineral depth, and layered aromatics. The 2018 'Le Bourg' is described as the estate's most powerful and structured expression of Cabernet Franc, sourced from very old vines on clay-limestone soils. Despite a challenging vintage due to early mildew, yields were good. Critics praise its dark, introverted nose with dried fruits, smoke, and cigar, an incredible texture, and a driven, tense style with sinew and energy. It offers notes of spicy toast, tar, liquorice, tobacco, blackcurrant, and plum, with firm, tightly wound tannins and vibrant acidity, built for long-term aging. Decanter awarded it 95 points, noting its brilliance on the palate and a rare combination of elegance and depth. Chris Kissack gave it 98 points, calling it a "top wine." 【Legendary Loire Cabernet Franc, built for decades of aging】.
