The 1998 Costers del Siurana Clos de l'Obac hails from Priorat, a region revived by a group known as the 'Gang of Five', which Costers del Siurana was a part of, establishing the winery in 1987 and releasing their first vintage in 1989. This flagship red blend is known for its mineral-driven, age-worthy character, deeply concentrated with a firm structure, reflecting the unique llicorella slate soils of Priorat. The winery employs a fixed coupage system, maintaining consistent grape percentages each vintage to highlight climatic variations. The blend typically includes Garnacha, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah, undergoing extended oak aging for 12-15 months.

**Tasting Notes:** Expect a complex bouquet of mature fruit and leather, with juicy and rich aromas, hints of ruggedness, and spicy notes. The palate should offer a seamless integration of fruit and oak, presenting as elegant and classic with a beautiful raw edge. It's ripe and rich, yet deeply balanced, with impressive freshness, high acidity, and firm tannins. Notes of dark fruit, stony, and graphite qualities are characteristic due to the llicorella slate.
**Food Pairing:** This robust red pairs exceptionally well with slow-roasted lamb or game birds. Other excellent pairings include grilled red meats or wild mushroom dishes.
**Fit for Event:** Ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a celebratory meal, or a special occasion where a powerful and complex red wine is desired. Its age-worthiness also makes it a great choice for collectors looking to open a mature bottle.
