FEATURES
The 1993 vintage in Burgundy saw an early flowering followed by a wet early July, before a hot, dry August. While initial expectations for an exceptional vintage were tempered by unpredictable September rains, the white wines, though austere at first, developed into magnificent, well-structured, powerful wines built for aging. Verget, founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen, is known for its meticulous grape sourcing and terroir-driven approach, with each plot pressed and vinified separately. Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets is a highly regarded vineyard immediately adjoining the Grand Cru Montrachet to the north, known for producing wines that can resemble Grand Crus at a fraction of the price. The name "Le Cailleret" refers to the rocky soils where Chardonnay is planted. Tasting notes for aged Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru from 1993 often describe a clear, medium intensity, gold color with aromas of indistinct minerality, citrus lemon, and slight oil, developing into ripe stone fruit, honeysuckle, and brioche on the palate, with good acidity and a medium+ finish. Clive Coates described a 1993 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Caillerets" as nicely elegant, very good, slightly delicate but intense Chardonnay sweetness, with good acidity and a long, delicate expression of Puligny. 【Grand Cru quality at a Premier Cru price point】.
🍴 This elegant white Burgundy would pair beautifully with delicate seafood dishes like seared scallops, sole meunière, or roasted chicken with herbs. Its acidity and minerality would also complement creamy risottos or aged Comté cheese.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a special anniversary, or a celebratory meal where a refined and complex white wine is desired. It's also a fantastic choice for a vertical tasting of Puligny-Montrachet to appreciate its evolution.
