Domaine Denis Mortet, Gevrey-chambertin En Motrot Rouge, 1993
The 1993 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin En Motrot Rouge is a superb village wine from a winemaker who rapidly became known for producing a series of very good vintages in the 90s, becoming an emblematic figure in Gevrey-Chambertin. This vintage has been described as elegant and well-made, aging gracefully with predictable tertiary notes of forest floor, making it a pleasant and excellent food wine. Some tasters have noted lovely wild berries and herbs on both the nose and palate, with amazing weight and length for a village wine. Denis Mortet was known for powerful and intensely colored Pinot cuvées, a modern style that drew many fans. The domain, established in 1991, covers appellations from Gevrey, with ancient vines and meticulously sorted grapes.
As a wine from 1993, this bottle is now over three decades old. Expect the cork to be delicate; a two-pronged cork puller or an Ah-So opener is often recommended for older bottles. Decanting is advisable for 1-2 hours to allow the wine to open up and to separate any sediment that may have formed over time. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🥂 This Gevrey-Chambertin is ideal for a contemplative evening, a special family dinner, or a gathering of Burgundy enthusiasts who appreciate the evolution and complexity of mature village wines. 【Emblematic Gevrey-Chambertin winemaker】
