Domaine Jean Raphet, Clos De La Roche Grand Cru, 1985
The 1985 vintage in Burgundy was well-received, producing suave and seductive Pinot Noir wines with above-average yields. Despite modest acidity, the vintage offered balance and remains one of the best from that decade. Domaine Jean Raphet, now known as Domaine Gérard Raphet, is a family estate with a long history, where winemaking traditions have been passed down through generations. Their Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is crafted from very old Pinot Noir vines, some over 100 years old, situated on the upper slopes of this prestigious vineyard.
【A Burgundy lover's Burgundy, known for its forceful intensity despite a delicate ruby color.】 The wines are handmade from field to bottle, with minimal intervention and aging in older French oak barrels. Expect aromas of earth, baking spices, red and black berries, and licorice, with fine-grained tannins and a structured yet suave palate revealing black cherries and earthy notes.
This 1985 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru is a mature wine, offering a glimpse into a classic Burgundy vintage. Given its age, it's ideal for a special anniversary dinner or a contemplative evening with fellow wine enthusiasts. When handling, be mindful of the old cork and capsule, which can be fragile. Decanting is recommended to allow the wine to breathe and to separate any sediment that may have formed over the decades. Serve at around 15°C (59°F) to best appreciate its evolved complexities.
Food Pairing: This elegant red Burgundy pairs beautifully with classic French cuisine such as roast pork or chicken, duck, goose, and other game birds. Delicately spiced dishes would also complement its nuanced profile.
