FEATURES
The 2005 Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is a standout from one of Burgundy's greatest modern vintages. The growing season in 2005 was ideal, characterized by a dry growing season with just the right amount of rain and moderate temperatures, resulting in small, concentrated berries with thick skins, yielding dark-colored wines with significant structure and aging potential. Château de la Tour is the largest landholder in Clos Vougeot, covering about 12% of the total vineyard area, and is known for its consistent quality. 【 One of the greatest vintages in modern Burgundy history 】. This particular bottling is often referred to as 'Cuvée Classique'.
Tasting notes for the 2005 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru reveal highly perfumed aromas and flavors of black cherry, red berries, minerals, flowers, and dark chocolate. It is wonderfully concentrated and sweet, with a powerful minerality that adds clarity, nobility, and inner-mouth aromatic complexity. Burghound described knockout scents of still relatively primary red and dark berry fruit, spice, floral, humus, game, and smoked tea, noting strikingly good concentration without heaviness, a seductively textured and velvety feel, and abundant dry extract buffering a very firm tannic spine. Stephen Tanzer also highlighted its dense, concentrated dark cherry fruit, complemented by red berries, alpine herbs, and mint, with earthy and leathery notes developing with aeration.
