FEATURES
The 2005 Domaine Pierre Usseglio et Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de Mon Aïeul hails from a "fantastically good" vintage for the Rhône, characterized by an idyllic growing season. Crafted from 100% Grenache old vines, some 75-90 years old, this wine is a powerful and elegant expression of its terroir. Many believe it has the 【potential to outshine other strong vintages with age】, including the highly acclaimed 2007.
This Cuvée de Mon Aïeul offers a pure and concentrated profile. The nose is very complex, with notes of raspberries, liquorice, and spices. Expect layered aromatics of sugar plums and perfume, along with sweet kirsch fruit, dark cherry, smoke, asphalt, and a touch of garrigue. On the palate, it's packed with fruit and terroir, showcasing concentrated red fruit and leather, with a gorgeous mouthfeel and a strong graphite undertow. While powerful, it maintains great elegance, with smooth, well-integrated, soft tannins. It's fully mature but nowhere near decline, with some suggesting it can improve slightly over the coming years.
🍴 Food Pairing:
This robust Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an excellent match for rich and flavorful dishes. Classic pairings include lamb, bone-in ribeye, braised meats, and game. It also complements hearty sides like sautéed mushrooms and spinach, or a charcuterie board featuring pâté and sourdough.
🥂 Event Suggestions:
Perfect for a celebratory dinner, a special gathering with friends, or a sophisticated barbecue. Its depth and complexity make it suitable for occasions where a bold yet elegant red wine is desired.
