Anne Gros, Clos Vougeot Le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru, 1999
The 1999 Anne Gros Clos Vougeot Le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru comes from a highly successful vintage for red Burgundy, capping off a great decade. The year was marked by a warm summer and good harvest conditions in September, leading to rich, generous, and fully ripe wines. Many 1999 red Burgundies are considered to be at their glorious peak now, offering a rare combination of charm and power, evolving slowly with plenty of life ahead. The hallmark of the '99 red wines was the quality of their tannins, which were ripe and added a silky structure to the fruit. Anne Gros's Clos Vougeot Le Grand Maupertui is known for its impressive fullness, power, and ripe tannins, with a velvet purple color and pronounced aromas of black fruit (ripe cherry, plum, blackcurrant) and spices (pepper, cloves, nutmeg). As it ages, candied elements and complex meaty nuances can develop. The average age of the vines in this parcel is 70 years, contributing to the wine's depth. 【Glorious peak of a powerful and charming vintage】.
Serving Advice: For a 1999 vintage, the cork should still be robust, but a good quality corkscrew is always recommended. Decanting for 1-2 hours can help the wine express its full aromatic complexity and soften any remaining tannins. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 Food Pairing: This powerful and elegant Grand Cru pairs exceptionally well with richer dishes such as roasted red meat with berries or fruit, red meat in sauce, or game with sorrel. Aged local French cheeses or charcuterie would also be excellent accompaniments.
🥂 Event Suggestions: An ideal wine for a significant celebration, a formal dinner, or a serious tasting among Burgundy enthusiasts. Its complexity and peak drinkability make it a showstopper for any special occasion.
