The 1996 Prieuré Roch Vosne-Romanée Clos Goillotte is a fascinating expression from a unique monopole vineyard. Clos Goillotte, a small 0.55-hectare plot in the heart of Vosne-Romanée, was historically reserved for family consumption and thus wasn't classified during the appellation system's creation in 1936. It only became available commercially after Henri-Frédéric Roch acquired the property in 1988. Prieuré Roch is known for its unconventional, biodynamic approach, including whole-cluster fermentation with stems and minimal sulfur use. While specific tasting notes for the 1996 vintage are scarce, general notes for Clos Goillotte often mention red fruit (dried strawberry, raspberry), earthy notes (truffle, leather), and hints of oak, spices (mint, anise, fennel), and floral notes (dried flowers, peony). The 1996 vintage itself is considered a strong year for red Burgundy, known for its structure and longevity. 【A unique monopole vineyard with a rich, unclassified history】.
As a 1996 vintage, this wine is well into its mature phase. Expect a potentially delicate cork and some sediment. A gentle decant for 30-60 minutes before serving can help it open up and separate from any deposits, but be mindful of over-aeration for older wines. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16°C (60°F).
🍴 This elegant Vosne-Romanée would be an excellent match for refined dishes such as roasted guinea fowl, pan-seared duck breast with cherry reduction, or delicate mushroom-based preparations. Its earthy and spicy notes would also complement aged Comté cheese.
🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner party or a quiet evening of contemplation for Burgundy enthusiasts. Its unique story and biodynamic origins make it a talking point, perfect for sharing with fellow wine lovers who appreciate artisanal winemaking.
