FEATURES
The 1995 Domaine François Lamarche Echézeaux Grand Cru is a remarkable red Burgundy from a vintage that, while not reaching the heights of top years, still produced successful wines, particularly at the Grand Cru level. The domaine, now run by sisters Nicole and Nathalie Lamarche, is renowned for crafting wines that express their terroir rather than sheer power, and this Echézeaux is a testament to that philosophy. The 1995 vintage in Burgundy saw a small crop of high quality, with a harmonious balance between power and elegance. Expect prominent notes of dark cherry and floral hints, complemented by earthy undertones and a touch of leather. The mouthfeel is silky yet firm, leading to a prolonged savory finish, showcasing how the wine has aged gracefully, with its rustic youth now matured.
Given its age, this 1995 Echézeaux requires careful handling. Old corks can be fragile, so a Durand opener or similar tool is recommended. Decanting gently for about 30-60 minutes before serving at around 16°C (60°F) will allow the wine to open up and express its complex aromas without losing its delicate nuances. Be mindful of potential sediment. 【Exceptional terroir expression from a top-tier Vosne-Romanée estate】.
🍴 Food Pairing: This elegant Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with classic Burgundian fare such as roasted duck, goose, or other game birds. Its earthy notes would also complement mushroom-based dishes or truffle risotto. For a Western pairing, consider coq au vin or a delicate beef bourguignon. For an Eastern touch, think of Cantonese roasted goose or a subtle braised pigeon.
🥂 Event Suggestion: This is a wine for a special, intimate dinner, perhaps celebrating an anniversary or a significant milestone. It's a contemplative wine, best enjoyed with fellow connoisseurs who appreciate the nuances of aged Burgundy.
BACKGROUND
François Lamarche is a historic winery located in the village of Vosne-Romanée, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir. The winery was founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche and his wife, Marie Grivelet, both of whom hailed from Burgundy and had extensive experience in wine production. In 2019, the current owner, Nicole Lamarche, officially renamed the winery to Domaine Nicole Lamarche, and from the 2018 vintage onwards, the wines no longer bear the name of the former owner, François Lamarche.
