Louis Carillon, Puligny Montrachet, 1994
White
750ml
Label : Very Slightly Bin Stained Label
Level : Neck Level Filled
The 1994 vintage in Burgundy was challenging due to heavy rains in September, which diluted acidity but not sugar, resulting in white wines that were soft, plump, and appealing for early to mid-term drinking, though not suited for long-term aging. Despite the difficulties, some good wines were produced, particularly from the Côte de Beaune. Domaine Louis Carillon, though now divided between the sons, was historically regarded as one of Puligny-Montrachet's finest estates, known for producing world-renowned Chardonnay with striking purity of fruit and understated beauty.
Tasting notes for 1994 Puligny-Montrachet from other producers suggest a golden color, with some acidity and full flavor, though potentially slightly overripe. Some wines from this vintage might show a flat nose that doesn't fully blow off. Generally, Puligny-Montrachet wines are known for minerality, crushed rock, and lemon peel notes, with a great acidic backbone often masked by overall structure and flavor, sometimes exhibiting golden apple and buttery, oaky components.
Food pairing suggestions for Puligny-Montrachet, a classic white Burgundy, include rich seafood dishes like scallops, lobster, or grilled fish with butter sauce. It also pairs well with poultry, creamy risottos, and goat cheese. The wine's inherent minerality and acidity will complement the richness of these dishes.
🥂 This wine is ideal for a special occasion dinner, a sophisticated lunch, or a gathering where fine white Burgundy is appreciated. It offers a chance to explore the characteristics of a mature Puligny-Montrachet from a vintage that favored earlier consumption. 【A classic expression of Puligny-Montrachet from a vintage best enjoyed in its youth】
