Jean-michel Gerin, Cote-rotie Les Grandes Places, 1994
Red
750ml
Label : Very Slightly Bin Stained Label/Vvdl
Level : Neck Level Filled
The 1994 vintage in the Northern Rhône, while not exceptional overall due to heavy September rains, still produced aromatic and concentrated red wines, particularly in appellations like Côte-Rôtie, with good ageing potential. Jean-Michel Gerin's Côte-Rôtie Les Grandes Places 1994 is known for its tremendous complexity and nuance. It typically presents an inky black colour with a powerful nose of bacon fat, smoke, and spice. On the palate, expect a huge mouthfeel with notes of black cherry, blackberry, leather, smoke, oak, chocolate, and vanilla, complemented by violet, melted liquorice, and coffee. This is a wine built for the long haul, capable of ageing gracefully for over 20 years.
Given its age, this 1994 Côte-Rôtie is a testament to the vintage's potential. When opening, be mindful of the cork, which may be fragile. Consider using an Ah-So opener or a Durand. Decanting is highly recommended to allow the wine to breathe and shed any sediment, revealing its full aromatic spectrum. Serve slightly below room temperature.
🍴 This robust Syrah pairs wonderfully with rich, savoury dishes. Think roasted meats like lamb, beef steaks, or even roasted chicken and barbecue. Its smoky and spicy notes would also complement game dishes or mature hard cheeses.
🥂 This wine is perfect for a special anniversary, a significant birthday celebration, or an intimate gathering of serious wine enthusiasts who appreciate the evolution and complexity of aged Northern Rhône Syrah. 【Tremendous complexity and aging potential beyond 20 years】
