FEATURES
The 1994 vintage in Burgundy was generally uneven, marked by a very wet first week of September that made harvesting difficult and led to declassification of some Grand and Premier Crus. However, the best red wines from meticulous growers in the Côte de Nuits, particularly those who harvested later, showed an attractive, fragrant style of fruit with soft tannins and a good balance of acidity and alcohol. 【Despite the challenging conditions, some 1er Cru vineyards, especially on well-draining slopes, were more successful.】 Robert Groffier's Chambolle-Musigny Les Hauts-Doix 1er Cru is known for its healthy dark red color, with aromas of red and darker fruits, earth, mocha, and flowers. On the palate, it is supple, saline, and deep, with soil-driven minerality complementing berry and chocolate flavors. Some notes also suggest perfume, violet, rose petal, plum, dark fruit, black fruit, licorice, mint, and dried herbs. Given its age, this wine should be handled with care; older corks and capsules can be fragile. Decanting is recommended to allow the wine to breathe and to separate any sediment, but do so gently and serve at around 16°C (60-64°F).
Food pairing suggestions: This elegant Chambolle-Musigny would be an excellent companion to roasted duck, pan-seared foie gras, or delicate game dishes like venison. It also pairs well with earthy mushroom preparations or fine cheeses.
Event suggestions: Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a special occasion with discerning wine lovers, or a contemplative tasting session to appreciate a mature Burgundy.
