The 1993 vintage in Burgundy was notable for producing wines built for aging, with the reds being particularly outstanding, powerful, and concentrated, boasting a firm backbone of ripe tannins. The weather conditions included an early flowering in June, followed by a wet early July, and then a hot, dry August.
The 1993 Jacques Prieur Musigny Grand Cru has been lauded as a "blockbuster" with a silky core of ripe plum, blackberry, and mineral character, leading to a remarkably long finish. More recent evaluations highlight "hints of sous-bois" adding breadth to nuanced aromas of smoke, violets, and a "cornucopia of red fruit" showing moderate secondary development. The palate offers "fine intensity and power to the velvet-textured and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that exude a lovely minerality before joining with a seamless finish that seems to go on and on." Some tasters have noted a nose of "strawberry patch, soysauce, violets" and a "sexy, sublime, cornucopia of fruits with a very savory umami like character" on the palate. This wine is still evolving and is expected to drink beautifully for another 20+ years. 【A powerful, age-worthy Grand Cru with remarkable intensity and a seamless finish】.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions include classic matches like duck, goose, and various game birds. It also pairs wonderfully with Magrets de canard aux champignons (duck breast with mushrooms), Oeuf en meurette (poached eggs in red wine sauce), and Volaille grillée (grilled poultry).
🥂 This powerful and concentrated Grand Cru is ideal for a significant celebration, a serious wine tasting, or a special occasion demanding a wine with immense depth and aging potential. It requires at least a decade of aging to fully express its complex character.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jacques Prieur is a relatively large Burgundy producer that makes both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from esteemed vineyard holdings across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, France. The history of the domaine began in the 1860s, with the marriage of Claude Duvergey and Marie Taboureau. They first established the wine and spirits merchant business, Duvergey-Taboureau House, before buying property in Meursault – now the site of the modern Domaine Jacques Priuer.
