The 1993 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru comes from a vintage where Claude Dugat, working from his 13th-century cellar, achieved significant success, hitting "several home runs" with his profound red Burgundies. His approach, including whole berry fermentation, contributes to a wine rich in fruit. Claude Dugat is now globally acclaimed for producing high-quality wines with microscopic yields and minimal intervention, avoiding clarifying or filtration. These wines are known for their richness, complexity, and consistent quality, making them excellent candidates for cellaring.
【Claude Dugat's 1993 vintage was a "home run" with profound red Burgundies, sought after by figures like Lalou Bize-Leroy】.
Tasting notes reveal a bouquet that leaps from the glass with "gobs of sweet berry fruit, spice, and toasty pain grillee notes". It is rich and velvety-textured with layers of fruit, presenting as a medium to full-bodied wine with the essence of black-cherry fruit. With age, the bouquet evolves to include dried flower and infused herb aromas, showcasing a concentrated, clean, and elegant profile.
Food pairing suggestions include classic French dishes such as Pigeons en cocotte bonne femme, Carré d'agneau, and Pavé de boeuf sauce Béarnaise.
This wine is perfect for a sophisticated dinner or a special celebration, particularly for those who appreciate a classic, aged Burgundy. It was enjoyable to drink young but also built to cellar for 10-12 years, meaning the 1993 vintage is now beautifully mature and ready to be savored.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Claude Dugat is a Burgundian producer in the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. This prestigious small winery produces only a small amount of Pinot Noir wine, with its most popular wines coming from designated Grand Crus. The domaine was founded by Claude's father in 1955, when he purchased a 13th-century building and converted it into a winery and cellar. Dugat bottles three Grand Cru red wines from Griotte-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin, as well as two Premier Cru wines.
