FEATURES
The 1993 Ramonet Chassagne Montrachet La Boudriotte Blanc 1er Cru hails from a vintage that, while sometimes overlooked, produced very refined white Burgundies with lovely nerve and tension. The bouquet offers fine mature notes and delicate minerality, often described as cool and understated. On the palate, it is well-balanced with delicate fruit and a powerful yet filigree minerality, showcasing effortless power and airiness. This wine is a mineralic powerhouse, expressing the perfect location in the center of the Montrachet vineyard. While specific tasting notes for the 1993 La Boudriotte are scarce, general characteristics for Ramonet's Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Boudriotte' include oaky notes (butter, vanilla), citrus (lemon, lime), earthy notes (minerals, stone, honey), and tree fruit (apple, pear, peach). The 1993 white Burgundy vintage was characterized by an early flowering, followed by a wet early July, then a hot, dry August, leading to wines built for aging with fairly high acidity. 【A refined and delicate mineralic powerhouse from an often-underestimated vintage】. Serving advice for this older vintage: Given its age, this 1993 white Burgundy should be handled with care. Expect the cork to be fragile; a Durand opener or similar device is recommended. Decanting is advisable to allow any sediment to settle and to let the wine open up, but keep decanting time relatively short (30-60 minutes) to preserve delicate aromas. Serve slightly chilled, around 12-14°C (54-57°F), to best appreciate its complexity without masking its mature nuances. Food pairing suggestions for this elegant white Burgundy include rich fish (salmon, tuna), shellfish, pasta, and mild and soft cheeses. It would also complement dishes like mushroom soup, braised veal, or turbot with hollandaise sauce. This wine is ideally suited for a celebratory dinner, a special anniversary, or a sophisticated tasting among connoisseurs of aged Burgundy. Its maturity makes it a contemplative wine, perfect for an evening of quiet enjoyment or a small, intimate gathering.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Ramonet is a prominent wine producer in the Burgundy appellations of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet, France. Ramonet owns more than 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards. The primary grape variety is Chardonnay, with a small amount of Pinot Noir also planted. The estate's most important wines are made from Chardonnay from the area's grand cru vineyards, and are highly collectible, often selling for high prices at auction. Domaine Ramonet makes several red wines from Pinot Noir as well. Domaine Ramonet is now run by Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet, following the death of their father Pierre in the mid-1990s.
