Robert Groffier, Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru, 1993
The 1993 vintage in Burgundy for red wines was characterized by deep colours, good structure, and flavour, with some initial awkward tannins that have largely softened with age. Robert Groffier's Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru 1993 is a testament to the potential of this vintage, offering a delightful surprise with its enduring vitality. This Pinot Noir from the revered 'Les Amoureuses' vineyard, often considered the 'third Grand Cru of Chambolle', is celebrated for its elegance and finesse. 【A delightful surprise, performing so well and showing Amoureuses in its full, mature glory.】
Serving a mature wine like this 1993 Groffier requires careful attention. The cork may be fragile, so a Durand opener is highly recommended. While some older wines benefit from decanting, a gentle 30-minute decant should suffice to allow the wine to open up and reveal its complexities without losing its delicate aromatics. Serve at a cellar temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F).
Expect a beautiful nose from the start, ever so elegant and light on its feet. Tasting notes often highlight bright cherry fruit that is clearly maturing and cut with plenty of spice, followed by sweet, nicely complex flavours with fine length. Red fruit notes like raspberry and strawberry are prominent, alongside earthy and oaky nuances. This elegant Chambolle-Musigny pairs wonderfully with delicate and refined dishes. Consider roasted squab, pan-seared duck breast, or a classic coq au vin. It also complements mushroom-based dishes, truffle pasta, or a fine selection of mild, aged cheeses.
This wine is perfect for a special occasion, a romantic dinner, or a gathering of discerning palates who appreciate the grace and evolution of a mature Burgundy.
