Jacques Prieur, Chambertin Grand Cru, 1993
Red
750ml
Label : Very Slightly Bin Stained Label
Level : Neck Level Filled
The 1993 vintage in Burgundy was a challenging yet ultimately rewarding year for red wines. After a wet early July, a hot and dry August helped ripen the grapes, leading to deep-coloured reds with good structure and flavour. While some found the tannins a bit awkward initially, many have softened over time, allowing the fruit to shine through. The Domaine Jacques Prieur Chambertin Grand Cru 1993, crafted from Pinot Noir, is known for its savoury and classic style. This particular vintage has shown remarkable longevity, with many bottles still offering a delightful drinking experience. 【A classic red-wine vintage offering wines of structure and rich, ripe black fruit.】
Serving an older wine like this 1993 Chambertin requires a gentle touch. The cork may be fragile, so a Durand opener or similar tool is recommended. Decanting for 30-60 minutes can help the wine open up and shed any sediment, but be mindful not to over-decant very old wines, as their delicate aromas can dissipate quickly. Serve at around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
Expect a complex bouquet of red fruits, earthy undertones, and perhaps some evolving tertiary notes like leather or forest floor. On the palate, it should be elegant with resolved tannins and a lingering finish. This Chambertin Grand Cru pairs beautifully with classic French cuisine. Think roasted duck, goose, or other game birds. It would also complement dishes featuring mushrooms, truffles, or a rich beef bourguignon. For a more adventurous pairing, consider aged hard cheeses.
This wine is ideal for a significant anniversary celebration, a sophisticated dinner party with fellow wine enthusiasts, or a quiet evening appreciating a mature and complex Burgundy.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jacques Prieur is a relatively large Burgundy producer that makes both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from esteemed vineyard holdings across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, France. The history of the domaine began in the 1860s, with the marriage of Claude Duvergey and Marie Taboureau. They first established the wine and spirits merchant business, Duvergey-Taboureau House, before buying property in Meursault – now the site of the modern Domaine Jacques Priuer.
