750ml
Label : Very Slightly Bin Stained Label

The 1991 Ponsot Clos Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is a truly remarkable and rare Burgundy. This vintage, from 60-year-old vines, was produced in extremely limited quantities, with only 5-10 cases reportedly imported to the United States. The wine presents a saturated ruby/purple color with a huge, mind-blowing nose of cassis, smoke, minerals, and spices. On the palate, it offers an unctuous texture and phenomenal richness, balanced by moderate tannin and relatively low acidity. It's described as a huge, massively extracted, amazingly well-defined, and impeccably balanced wine, reminiscent of the great Ponsot 1980 Clos de la Roche-Vieilles Vignes but more concentrated. While the 1991 vintage in Burgundy was generally inconsistent, Ponsot managed to produce an outstanding wine. 【Rivals virtually anything produced in Burgundy over the last several decades】.
Given its age, this 1991 Grand Cru should be handled with care. Expect potential fragility and a delicate cork. Decanting is recommended for older wines to allow them to breathe and separate from any sediment, but for a wine of this age, a gentle decant just before serving, or simply opening and letting it breathe in the bottle, might be preferable to avoid over-exposure to air. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 This exquisite red Burgundy pairs beautifully with classic French dishes such as roasted duck, goose, or other game birds. Its complexity and richness would also complement truffle-based dishes or a fine mushroom risotto.
🥂 This is a wine for a truly special occasion, perhaps an intimate anniversary dinner or a significant milestone celebration, where its rarity and profound character can be fully appreciated by discerning connoisseurs. It's a contemplative wine, best enjoyed with good company and thoughtful conversation.
