FEATURES
The 1990 vintage in Burgundy was a standout year, widely regarded as one of the finest in the latter half of the 20th Century, particularly for reds. A mild winter and cool, wet spring were followed by a very hot, dry summer, with welcome rains in late August and September. This led to a large harvest of small, concentrated berries. The reds, like this AF Gros Echezeaux Grand Cru, were typically beautifully balanced with deep, rich fruit, good tannins, and weight. Some critics noted the summer heat created denser, more tannic wines than typically associated with Burgundy, but they were largely celebrated for their intensity and structure. Thirty years on, the ripe intensity has integrated, showing layers of developing aromas and complexity. The AF Gros Echezeaux Grand Cru 1990 is known for its finesse, ripe aromas, and length on the palate. Expect notes of ripe raspberries, red apples, liquorice, pine, red currants, dried raspberries, beetroot, and rosehips, with a long, balanced finish and some Christmas spices. 【Exceptional depth and aging potential】. This wine is in a perfect drinking stage, with some bottles capable of going on for another 5-10 years.
This mature Grand Cru is ideal for a celebratory dinner or a special occasion among connoisseurs who appreciate aged Burgundy. Given its age, it's a testament to the vintage's longevity and the producer's skill. When serving, handle with care as older corks and capsules can be fragile. Stand the bottle upright for a few days before opening to allow any sediment to settle. Decanting is recommended for 1-2 hours to allow the wine to breathe and reveal its full aromatic complexity, but be mindful of its age and stop decanting if the wine seems to fade. Serve at around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
