FEATURES
The 1989 vintage for the Rhône Valley was exceptionally good, even touted as the vintage of the decade, characterized by drought-like conditions that favored older vines. For Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the wines from this year were intense, tannic, and extremely concentrated, possessing an enormous capacity to age. The M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf-du-Pape Barbe Rac 1989, made from 90-year-old Grenache vines, showcases an intense garnet color. On the nose, it offers notes of herbs, spices like liquorice, chocolate, and fruits such as strawberry, which become more pronounced with age. The palate is described as ample, fleshy, hot, and round, with outstanding density and an impressive length. Robert Parker rated a similar 1989 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Beaucastel) at 97 points, noting its extraordinarily sweet, rich personality with notes of smoke, melted licorice, black cherries, Asian spices, and cassis, suggesting it required more time to reach its plateau of maturity. This particular Barbe Rac vintage has an unbelievable potential for aging, with some vintages lasting up to 70 years. 【Exceptional aging potential, up to 70 years】.
🍴 This rich and intense red wine pairs wonderfully with all meats, especially marinated or sauced dishes, and also complements various cheeses. A perfectly smooth wine that would be an ideal match for a ribeye steak.
🥂 Given its impressive aging potential and complex profile, this wine is perfect for a milestone anniversary celebration, a serious wine collector's tasting, or a luxurious dinner party where a robust, aged red is desired to impress.
