FEATURES
The 1989 Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from a vintage described as "very good" for Burgundy, a testament to Ramonet's prowess in even challenging years. Domaine Ramonet is widely regarded as Chassagne-Montrachet's unrivalled representative winery, with its white wines considered among the finest in the region. Neal Martin noted the 1989 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet for its "almost outrageous eucalyptus-scented bouquet" and a palate that is "very well balanced" with a "tangy, marmalade and quince finish." John Gilman found a classic Ramonet bouquet with "ripe apples and pears, fresh peppermint, damp minerality, spring flowers and vanillin oak," leading to a "full-bodied, focused and deep" palate with "tensile acidity." Burghound praised its "wonderfully complex and fresh" nose with "spice and subtle honeysuckle notes," and "rich, full-bodied, sweet and refined flavors" that offer "outstanding length." Other notes include butter, oak, minerals, honey, smoke, citrus, lemon, lime, peach, apricot, pear, tropical fruits, brioche, and almond.
Given its age, this wine should be handled with care. Old corks can be fragile, so a Durand opener or similar tool is recommended. Decanting is advisable to allow the wine to breathe and shed any sediment, but do so gently and monitor its evolution closely. Serve slightly chilled, around 12-14°C (54-57°F), in large Burgundy glasses to appreciate its complex aromatics.
🍴 Food Pairing: This magnificent white Burgundy pairs exquisitely with rich fish like salmon or tuna, shellfish, pasta in creamy sauces, mild and soft cheeses, and cured meats. It would also complement roasted chicken or turkey dishes beautifully.
🥂 Event Suggestions: This is a wine for a truly special occasion, perhaps a milestone anniversary, a significant celebration, or a serious fine wine tasting. 【Robert Parker once stated, 'If you want to taste the ultimate in white wine, there is no other choice but Ramonet.'】
