🏰The 1988 Château Lynch-Bages is a 【classic claret that has turned out surprisingly delicious, offering a symphony of dried herbs, smoke, leather, grilled meats, and copious black cherry and currant fruit】. The 1988 vintage in Bordeaux was generally good, and Lynch-Bages produced one of the biggest wines in the northern Médoc that year, avoiding the harsh astringency that plagued many 1988s. It hit its plateau of maturity around 2000 and was expected to remain there for another 10-12 years. It has a dark ruby color with purple hues. Aromas of dried herbs, smoke, leather, grilled meats, and copious black cherry and currant fruit. It is medium-bodied, powerful, rich, and surprisingly evolved. Expect mature black fruits, cassis, cedar, herbal/veggie notes, and leather adding complexity, with a nice balance, mostly resolved tannins, and mature fruits with irony/minerally undertones.
🍴 This superb Bordeaux is an excellent match for grilled ribeyes, classic Bordeaux pairings like roasted lamb, beef Wellington, or aged hard cheeses (Brie with truffles).
🥂 A superb, mature Bordeaux for a celebratory dinner, a special anniversary, or a tasting of aged claret.
Kindly reminder: For a wine of this age, expect a beautiful evolution of tertiary aromas like forest floor, leather, and dried fruit. The cork and capsule should be handled with care, and decanting is recommended to separate any sediment and allow the wine to breathe. This wine is currently at its peak or slightly past, so enjoy it soon.
