FEATURES
The 1982 Salon Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs is a legendary vintage from a house renowned for producing only a single wine: a vintage Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs made entirely from Chardonnay grapes. The 1982 vintage in Champagne was considered a great year, yielding a wine that is still concentrated and complex. Decanter described it as paradoxically among the freshest of older wines, showing bright, youthful aromas of fresh apricot, flowers, beeswax, and nougat, with a rich, dense texture and perfect balance. Other tasting notes include citrus, truffles, hazelnuts, coffee beans, mustard seeds, cloves, and other spices, with powerful acidity and wonderful length. It also revealed lovely mushroom notes, a palpable chalkiness, and great balance and finesse after opening up. 【Salon is considered the first true Blanc de Blancs and is an original 'unicorn' Champagne due to its rarity, with less than 40 vintages released since 1905 and estimated production of only around 60,000 bottles per vintage.】
As a mature vintage Champagne, the 1982 Salon is a delicate treasure. Older bottles may have fragile corks and capsules, so open with care, perhaps using an Ah-So opener. While some older Champagnes can benefit from a brief decant to release complex aromas, for a wine of this age and stature, it's often best to serve directly from the bottle, allowing it to slowly reveal its layers in the glass. Ensure it's well-chilled but not overly cold, ideally around 10-12°C (50-54°F), to allow its intricate bouquet to shine.
🍴 This exquisite Champagne pairs beautifully with raw shellfish, lobster, delicate seafood dishes, and game birds with light sauces. Its complexity also makes it a superb match for aged Parmesan cheese or dishes featuring truffles.
🥂 The 1982 Salon is not an everyday Champagne; it is meant to be savored during life's most memorable moments. It is ideal for significant celebrations, a grand anniversary, or an exclusive tasting event where its historical significance and exceptional quality can be fully appreciated.
