FEATURES
The 2005 Albert Boxler Alsace Grand Cru Riesling Sommerberg E hails from an emblematic domain in Alsace, where half of its 19 hectares are Grand Cru classified. Founded in the late 1940s, Albert Boxler prioritizes clean and careful viticulture, with vines on steep terrain cultivated organically and yielding masterful results. Jean Boxler, the current owner, aims to highlight the unique characteristics of the grape varieties and terroirs through fine, taut, and crystalline wines. The Riesling vines on the Eckberg hillside thrive on granite and pebble soils, imparting significant minerality. These 40-year-old vines, at 400 meters altitude, mature slowly, producing refined fruits with fine aromas and a long finish. The cuvée was expected to reach its full potential after five to six years, meaning the 2005 is now well into its mature phase, showing excellent evolution and remaining fresh and crisp.
This white wine presents a golden color with a sophisticated and elegant bouquet of citrus fruits, green tea, smokey, and peppery notes. The palate offers a clean, crisp attack, beautifully integrated with great minerality, leading to a finely saline, flavorful finish. Expect unctuous, achingly dry apricot and stone fruit, intense green apple, and a nice acidic finish. Further complexity can reveal floral elements, peach pit, wet stone, and pungent flinty mineral suggestions.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This Riesling is a superb match for delicate dishes like skate wings with capers, frogs' legs with garlic and parsley, or scallops with citrus. It also pairs well with pork, vegetarian dishes, rich fish (salmon, tuna), spicy food, and cured meats. Some even enjoy it with buttered popcorn or a chicken and tomato sandwich.
🥂 Event suggestions: Given its age and remarkable evolution, this wine is perfect for a contemplative tasting, a sophisticated dinner, or an occasion where a mature, complex white wine is truly appreciated. Its versatility with spicy cuisine also makes it an excellent choice for Asian-themed gatherings. 【Exemplary expression of Alsace Grand Cru Riesling with significant aging potential and complex minerality from granite and pebble soils】
