The 2023 Prieuré Saint-Jean de Bébian Saint-Jean Blanc is a truly beautiful gastronomic white wine from an iconic Languedoc estate. This vintage is crafted by Benoît Pontenier, who has been revitalizing the estate since 2015, focusing on grape quality and sustainable practices, including biodynamics and the elimination of SO2. The wine is a blend of Roussanne and Grenache Gris, with some sources also mentioning Chardonnay, grown on diverse soils of rounded pebbles and basalt fragments. It is aged in barrels for twelve months, or in old foudres for a year, allowing the terroir to express itself without artifice. Tasting notes reveal aromas of white-fleshed fruit and pollen. The palate is broad and ample with notes of fresh honey, dried fruit, and almonds, complemented by a lovely, lingering salinity. Other descriptions include notes of ripe pear, nuts, citrus zest, and dried herbs, with a full-bodied palate that remains taut. Pontenier describes his 2023 as his best vintage yet, with exceptional balance and energy. 【Iconic Languedoc estate, revitalized with biodynamic practices and exceptional balance】.
Food Pairing: This gastronomic white wine is excellent with roasted fish, creamy poultry, seafood, and white meats. Its complexity and lingering salinity would also complement dishes with fresh honey or dried fruits.
Event Suggestions: Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a special occasion celebrating fine Languedoc wines, or as an impressive gift for a wine connoisseur. It's also suitable for a summer gathering where elegant white wines are appreciated.
