FEATURES
The 2013 Domaine de la Grange des Pères Rouge hails from the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, crafted from a Syrah blend that typically includes Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Counoise. The vines are cultivated on stony, 'galets roulés' soils, following organic and biodynamic principles, though without formal certification. This vintage matured for two years in a combination of used and new oak barrels before blending. While some sommeliers considered 2013 a weaker and unusual vintage, this wine is noted for its "roaring Counoise" and a modern, transparent, and very digestible style.
Visually, it presents a dark core with a touch of brick colour at the rim, displaying a mellow shaded ruby hue. The nose is open and aromatic, offering notes of leather, garrigue, and red berries, alongside scents of sloe. Expect a complex bouquet of intense, ripe fruits like blueberry and blackberry, prominent oak, and deep earthiness, including barnyard, leather, olives, and garrigue. The palate is sweet yet lifted and intriguing, polished and racy with a very savoury finish. It features silky tannins, a creamy texture, and an aroma of underbrush, liquorice, and pepper, with light tannins and abundant raspberry notes, almost Pinot-like. This wine is 【one of the few Languedoc wines to receive high praise from Robert Parker, known for its intense fruit, prominent oak, and saline minerality/earthiness.】
🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This red wine is an excellent match for roasted leg of lamb (Gigot d'agneau rôti) and also pairs well with South Indian addai.
🥂 Event suggestions: The 2013 Domaine de la Grange des Pères Rouge is an iconic wine that can be enjoyed now, but also possesses significant aging potential, making it suitable for special dinners or cellaring for future enjoyment.
