The 2014 Domaine Jacques Puffeney Arbois Trousseau is a significant vintage as it marks the official retirement of Jacques Puffeney, affectionately known as 'Le Pape d'Arbois', after his 52nd vintage. He sold the majority of his vineyards, though he retained a small parcel for producing the Trousseau Cuvée Berangères. This vintage is considered one of his last widely available releases. The 2014 vintage in Europe saw a summer with dank and humid conditions, which could pose challenges, but Puffeney was known for his meticulous approach and ability to coax structure and deep savoriness from Trousseau grapes.
Tasting notes for the 2014 Arbois Trousseau often highlight its light and perfumed red style. Expect tart red fruit, bright floral bouquets, medicinal herb notes, and a stiff acidity with a tight structure yet incredible length. Some tasters have noted earthy, mushroom, and wet hay on the nose, with a lean fruit profile, while others found bright Bing cherry fruit, purple flowers, and exotic spices after several hours of aeration. It's described as light on its feet but loaded with character, benefiting from plenty of air and patience, with aging potential through 2030.
🍴 Food pairing suggestions include chicken and turkey. Given its light and perfumed red style with good acidity, it would also pair well with charcuterie, earthy mushroom dishes, and lighter game.
🥂 This wine is perfect for a thoughtful dinner with friends who appreciate unique, traditional Jura wines, or for a special occasion celebrating a legendary winemaker's legacy. 【Last widely available vintage from 'Le Pape d'Arbois'】
